Early life and education

Edward Clement Davies was born on 19 February in Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, Wales.^[1] He was educated at the local primary school and at Llanfyllin County School, to which he won a scholarship in He read law at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where he graduated with first-class honours.^[2]

Legal practice

Davies lectured in law at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth in – and was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn.

He practiced as a barrister in North Wales and in northern England before moving to London in , where he established a successful legal practice. During the First World War he worked for the Board of Trade. He took silk in , becoming a KC.^[2]
